Is KPS due for another re-rating?

The water rates issue have just been agreed between the Pahang and Selangor governments. Selangor will now pay an additional 5 sen per litre of raw untreated water to Pahang in this water transfer project.

Now that the main bugbear affecting the project has been permanently removed, what next? Will the earlier agreement between Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB) and KPS be enforced? This is now quite unlikely because water is now on the concurrent list of the Federal Constitution and the Federal government might be involved in some parcels of its development.

What I can foresee now is that the agreement between KDEB and KPS will be reviewed in the light of these new developments. I believe KPS will still get the lion share of the development and maintenance of this project. If the rumour on the takeover of Puncak Niaga comes true, it will certainly put KPS as the new kid of the block and head honcho of waterworks in Malaysia.

So do you think KPS is going to be re-rated by the market on Thursday when market reopens? Your guess is as good as mine.

The 6 to 10 Joint

If you want to have a decent western dinner, try the above joint in Section 17. It is situated beneath one of the flats near the school. You cannot miss it.

Don't compare the food to Victoria Station, San Francisco Steakhouse or TGIF. For the price you pay, it is value for money. The lamb-chops are fabulous at RM12. The nasik lemak is also very good; certified by the Ho Chiak Programme on TV8.

Have fun.

Elephant Memory

Believe me, you may have forgotten many things in your life. For you, these things are dead and buried. As you sleep away soundly every night, never in your wildest dreams would you imagine that they would get up like the ghosts of yesterday and come to haunt you twenty years down the road.

In case, you are still guessing what I am saying here; try to be your own investor. Do not get involved with others unless they are matured investors, willing to lose on the stock market on their own risk. If not, this will be the scenario.

When they make money on your tips, they never remember. When the lose, they never forget. They have elephant memory! Twenty years down the road, they will still be cursing you!

The Passion for Possession

I noticed most people have one inherent weakness. They covet.

It does not matter what. It can be a material thing or otherwise. They want to live in a mansion and own properties in choice areas. They want to be driven in the latest Mercedes. If the are buying a sports car, it has to be a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche or Lotus.

Then they have other toys to play with as well. They would love to be a member of a yacht club. As such, they would buy luxurious boats and yachts to be moored in a respectable marina. With friends in high places, they would go sailing in international waters.

It can be also the possession of things beautiful. For example they want to marry a trophy wife. They want to be seen in the company of young, nubile and beautiful ladies.

Their wants and demands to possess is never ending. As long there is money coming in torrents, they will be on a spree.

So that is the life of the rich and famous. no, not of the rich and stingy. They are no longer relevant. The new rich knows what to do with money. Money is what money does. Use it! Flaunt it! Get what you want now - wine, women and song.

They want to win

Dubious Doublets:

Stewart Edelstein has written a wonderful book. It is a delightful compendium of unlikely word pairs of common origin from aardvark and porcelain to zodiac and whiskey. Take an enchanting tour through the tangled roots of English and you would be surprised at the commonality of unlikely words.

If you are interested in etymology, there is no other book quite as entertaining as this book.

I will post interesting snippets from this book from time to time.

Jack O' Lantern

The symbol often associated wit Halloween is the golden orange pumpkin with a devious hollow face cut with a candle lighted inside it. This pumpkin represents Jack O' Lantern.

Story goes that Jack who goes around with a lantern something akin to a town crier was a real tease. He would play pranks on all and sundry. One day he even cajoled the devil to climb a tree. when the devil was up in the tree, he quickly affixed crucifixes all around the tree so that the devil could not descend.

Jack made the devil to promise never to take his soul to Hell and the devil grudgingly agreed. Jack soon passed on. The devil kept his promise and Jack found himself at the pearly gates of heaven. Howver, St. Peter would not let Jack in because Jack was such a sinful fella.

So, Jack was left in suspended animation between heaven and hell and was wont to roam on earth. To help him to see through the darkness the devil gave Jack a burning coal to find himself around

Exercises and Food Intake

Why is it that when you can afford to eat, you cannot. You would have to forgo you favourite food because your doctor says so. They say that your cholesterol level is high. You need exercise three times a week; each time for at least 35 minutes to be able to have aerobics.
The Way It Used To Be

Gone of the days when things were cheap or when things were inexpensive. The strength of the ringgit is fast disappearing. It is shrinking at an enormous rate.

I remembered I used to buy a plate of mee at 20 sen, a roti canai at 10 sen, satay at 5 sen a stick. A soup of fish ball soup or a bowl of beef noodles costs 20 sen as well.

Ans when I go to the wet market, kembong was sold at 15 sen a kati. You can get a black pomfret for ringgit and prawns could be gotten at a 50 sen a kati. Pork was cheap. You can get it at a dollar fifty a kati. Kampung chicken eggs were going for no more than 10 sen each

In fact, the most expensive thing thing was a chicken. It cost at least four dollars. As such we eat chicken only once a year duing the Chinese New Year.

The Trouble with Textbooks

I really do not know how the Textbook Bureau of the Ministry of Education operates but the books they selected as textbooks leave much to be desired. Some are not even clear on concepts.

A case in point. Soltices and equinoxes. There is a diagram showing the earth at four positions around the sun. The poor student is confused which of them are equinoxes and which; soltices.
Some revision books do provide a date besides the earth position to aid the student.

The way I look at it, the four positions of the earth is a standard picture. The earth position on the right is the winter solstice while that on the right is the summer solstice. The earth position on the top refers to the spring equinox whilst the bottom position is that of the autumn equinox.

I hope I am not confusing anyone.

HRT- Fret No More!

More controversy over Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)? First it was bad but now it is good.

For millions of women, menopause can be downright miserable. Symptoms include hot flushes, mood swings and brittle bones. HRT can prevent that, and give older women a new lease of life. So women all over the world started on HRT. However, five years ago a high profile study from America linked HRT to heart disease, strokes and breast cancer. Patients panicked and discontinued the medication in droves only to be told now that the US report was wrong.

So what are we to believe? Professor John Studd, the Chairman of the British Menopause Society tells us the latest thinking.

This is his update:

"The Million Women study has been criticised because of its eccentric data collection, resulting five years ago in a considerable overestimation of breast cancer. Today, patients and their doctors are still confused as to what the truth is at the moment. However, menopausologists are quite certain that HRT given to women younger than 60 can reduce heart attacks and prevent colon cancer and osteoporosis of the hip and spine. It has no effect on stroke but may possibly cause a slight increase in breast cancer of a less advanced grade."

The Professor thought that women with appropriate vasomotor symptoms, hormone-responsive depression and low bone density, should not be discouraged from using HRT. He is saddened that many GPs are still relying on the now discredited WHI data and not recommending HRT to their patients.

So, what do you know? It is generally safe to restart on HRT again.

Why Godot's Way?

Why do I called the blog "Godot's Way"?

The blog is named after Godot, the invisible character of a two-act play by Samuel Beckett. Godot does not appear at all in the play. At th end of both acts, a messenger boy will declare that Godot would not be coming and it is up for the characters to leave or otherwise. The play is premised of the theme of a 'waiting game'.

Some speculate that Godot was derived from the Irish word go de meaning eternity. Others believe that Godot is simply God. The characters in the play awaits for God but God never arrives. A messenger delivers Godot's message to them instead.

I do not intend to be Godot or God's messenger here. What I would like to do is to give my opinions and impressions on things near and near through this blog.

And thus I thought it would be a nice name for my blog. Agree?
