The Dragon Inns
Which is the better Dragon Inn? The original-starring Shangkuan Lin Fong and Shih Cheng which was directed by the movie maestro, King Hu or the latter version helmed by Tsui Hark starring Briggite Lin, Maggie Chung and Tony Leong?
For me, there is no better version. They are not really comparable. King Hu's version was the technology of the later 60s and Tsui Hark's was almost towards the 80s. Story-wise, both did not depart from the original script.
There was more love-play than sword play in the later version. King Hu's was dead serious.
I saw the latter version yesterday night over TV2. It was still fun to watch the antics of Maggie Chung and her band of brigands robbing almost everyone blind at Dragon Inn.
